My name is Pablo Ibáñez

I'm a Senior Compositor currently based in Wellington, New Zealand, with 8+ years of experience in high-end Visual Effects and Digital Compositing. For the past two years, I’ve been working at Wētā FX, contributing to high-end feature film projects across different teams, shows and production environments. I’ve worked on films such as Umami, Predator: Badlands, House of the Dragon, Shōgun and Thor: Love and Thunder, across countries such as New Zealand, Ireland and Germany.

As a Senior Compositor I've got a solid photography and lighting fundamentals, and a strong background in filmmaking, 3D, video editing, maths and colour grading. I have a strong interest in perfecting details and crafting the best image possible, which makes me look for different approaches to solve problems.

I'm highly passionate about emerging technologies, and I have extensive experience working with deep workflows. I'm deeply involved in lookdev development, tackling complex hero shots across different sequences & teams, and developed templates. Working internationally has given me a broad understanding of VFX production and the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with artists and departments from a wide range of backgrounds.

The perfect mix between my creative side and my technical side which allows me to apply my precision and hard work to what has always been my greatest passion. I'm a dynamic team player, highly organized, and a lifelong learner, always looking to expand my knowledge, explore new technologies and push the boundaries of what can be achieved in compositing. I believe that challenges are opportunities for growth, and I strive to find the right solution and workflow to overcome them.

My objective is to continue pursuing my passion for visual effects as an artist, collaborating with such talented people on extraordinary projects.

My Goals

My current goals has been always probably the same: To keep learning new things, to push my knowledge, my precision and my hard work towards what has always been my greatest passion. Do what I love in film visual effects as a compositing artist, while working on great projects alongside super talented artists, and and never stop facing challenges that make me grow as a professional.

I'm looking for an environment that decides to trust and believes in me, to push me further my limits. I am a lifelong learner and see limitless potential for growth and advancement in this field, I hope to never stop learning, as there’s so much to learn and improve in every single corner of this craft, also about the new emerging technologies. I have spent more than half of my life fully inmersed in postproduccion and visual effects, I'm always learning new workflows and better ways to help my team and my way to work.

In my journey, I have always been improving my knowledge both creative and technical. I hope to continue learning, sharing my knowledge and supporting others in their career paths (as other brilliant artists did with me), and never lose my love and desire to create since I started this journey.
